14: Why should I follow your rules?
“That person isn’t afraid of death; they even dared to provoke the new boss!”
“Exactly, exactly, I heard the boss is an immortal.”
“This has overturned my understanding of science.”
Two days later, in that square, people were discussing animatedly. Tian Ming had established a rule: every morning at 8 o’clock, everyone had to gather to receive the day’s supplies and be assigned the day’s tasks.
The three people who bullied Wan Yu were also brought onto the stage, having gone two days without a drop of water, so starved they were on their last breath and couldn’t even stand steadily. Gouzi sent a few people to drag the three onto the stage.
“See that? This is what happens to people who dare to bully the boss’s woman. Everyone, look closely. If you want to stay in the Shelter, you must obey the rules the boss has given us. Otherwise, go out and fend for yourselves; don’t stay in the Shelter,” Gouzi shouted loudly.
A woman in her forties, holding a seven or eight-year-old child in her arms, angrily said, “Why are his rules the only rules? I disagree! We’ve been here for days, and we haven’t even had a sip of clean water. We’ve been gnawing on dry compressed biscuits every day, and my child has had diarrhea for two days because he drank dirty water!”
At the woman’s protest, the people below remained silent. The water problem was extremely severe; there was a river in the factory area, but the water in it was incredibly murky.
In the past two days, the number of people suffering from diarrhea just from drinking water was not small. Although Tian Ming had instructed them to boil the water before drinking, there was very little fuel in the factory area, so most people were still drinking raw water.
Gouzi roughly told the agitated woman, “If you don’t want to stay here, then get out! The Shelter’s resources will only be allocated to useful people.”
The child in the woman’s arms had a pale face. Suddenly, the child coughed violently, spitting out a large puddle of black water.
“When we first entered the Shelter, you took everything we had. Now my child is sick, but you want to kick us out. Has your conscience been eaten by dogs?” The woman became more and more agitated as she spoke, her face flushed, her voice hoarse and desperate.
Tian Ming stepped forward and reached out, but the woman hugged her child and took two steps back.
“Don’t touch my child!”
“Let me see!”
The woman put down her child and suddenly erupted, like a shrew, fiercely scratching Tian Ming’s face. This caught him off guard, and Tian Ming’s face was scratched.
The woman then kicked out again; she was completely enraged. She no longer cared what kind of boss Tian Ming was.
Her husband had turned into a zombie yesterday and was shot through the head directly by a crossbow arrow from the patrol. Now her child was feverish and unconscious; the child was her only motivation to live. If the child couldn’t be saved, she didn’t want to live in this world either.
Tian Ming instinctively dodged, and the scratch wound on his face healed at a visible rate. Gouzi stepped forward, kicked the woman to the ground, raised the crossbow in his hand, and pulled the trigger.
The woman despairingly closed her eyes, but the crossbow arrow disappeared in mid-air, instantly decomposed into a cluster of atoms by Tian Ming.
Tian Ming glared at Gouzi, who quickly retreated, not daring to act presumptuously again.
“Who is Wu Cuiling?” Tian Ming stood up and called out. Yesterday, Lin Yue had tallied everyone’s professions, and this Wu Cuiling was registered as a doctor on the form.
The woman lying on the ground opened her eyes, a cold smile appearing at the corner of her mouth: “That’s me!”
This child’s mother was a doctor, and even a chief physician.
“What will it take to save your child?”
Wu Cuiling sneered, “Yesterday, when Gouzi went out to search for supplies, I gave him a prescription and asked him to go to a pharmacy. When he came back, I looked for him. He didn’t go to the pharmacy.”
Tian Ming turned his head to look at Gouzi. Gouzi quickly explained, “Boss, it’s really not my fault. We only collected supplies on the outskirts. We did see a few pharmacies, but they all had zombies, so we didn’t dare to go in.”
Tian Ming turned back and said, “You are a doctor, so you should know what medicine your child needs, right? If you answer my question, I can create the medicine for you.”
The woman crawled over and said, “My child has a bacterial infection and needs antibiotics. A broad-spectrum one will do, Amoxicillin.”
Tian Ming nodded slightly and said, “What is the main antibacterial component?”
“Amoxicillin trihydrate!”
“Do you know the molecular formula?”
“Carbon 16, Hydrogen 19, Nitrogen 3, Oxygen 5, Sulfur 1, with three water molecules attached,” the woman said.
“Are you sure you didn’t remember incorrectly? Can starch be used as an excipient? I can synthesize it using elements, but the quantity isn’t very precise. Each pill will contain about 5-10 milligrams of active ingredient. I can also synthesize pure powder.”
The woman was startled, nodding repeatedly, and said, “For oral use, don’t make it pure; just mix it with starch. I will control the dosage myself.”
Tian Ming nodded, and instantly a paper box appeared in his hand, containing hundreds of pills. The woman directly grabbed one and put it in her mouth.
It was slightly bitter. She looked at Tian Ming and said, “I also need two more drugs for a triple therapy. In addition, I need glucose and saline to rehydrate my child. Can you make all of these appear?”
“I’ll try. As long as you can describe it accurately, or give me a physical sample, I can make it appear.”
“Give me pure, sterile water, 0.9% sodium chloride solution, 5% glucose, and also Vitamin C and Vitamin B!”
Wu Cuiling meticulously listed everything she needed, including the proportion of each element and other requirements. Tian Ming reassembled the entire IV set according to her specifications.
They moved directly to the second floor of the abandoned steel factory building. The woman was also busily preparing the medicine. Tian Ming stood by, watching her work.
After hanging the IV drip for the child, the woman finally breathed a sigh of relief. The people in the square, having collected their supplies, had gradually dispersed. Outside the door on the second floor, more than a dozen people with sallow faces gathered; they were all individuals who had suffered from diarrhea after drinking raw water.
The child’s complexion improved, and a glimmer of light appeared in the woman’s dim eyes.
Tian Ming observed the entire process. This woman possessed excellent professional skills. Her earlier helplessness was simply due to the lack of medicine; even with professional knowledge, a clever housewife cannot cook without rice.
“Boss, please let Dr. Wu save me, save us!” Several people knelt at the doorway, constantly kowtowing to Tian Ming. They were severely dehydrated from diarrhea, and each person looked extremely weak.
Wu Cuiling glanced at them and said, “There aren’t enough medicines, and medical consumables are also insufficient.”
“It’s alright, I’ve already reassembled one batch. Now I just need to replicate it, it’ll be quick,” Tian Ming picked up the reassembled medicine and immediately began replicating it.
Soon, the boxes in the room were filled with medicine. This efficiency left Wu Cuiling astonished.
With the medicine, she immediately became busy. Over a dozen people filled every corner of the room. Although the conditions in this Clinic were rudimentary, the faces of these people relaxed, and in everyone’s eyes, hope seemed to have appeared.
“Boss, can you step outside for a moment!” Wu Cuiling stood outside the door and said to Tian Ming.
Tian Ming walked out, and Wu Cuiling suddenly knelt down with a thud.
Thump, she directly kowtowed to Tian Ming. The woman hit her head very hard, and a bump instantly appeared on her forehead.
“I deserve to die, Boss, it was my fault. I shouldn’t have laid hands on you. You saved my child, and from today onwards, my life is yours!” Wu Cuiling’s eyes were red, but her voice was filled with determination!
