17: Two rocket pilots
“Speak, where did you get the firearms from?” Tian Ming asked coldly, looking at Qiu Wuhui who was squatting on the ground.
“I found an armory and took them from there,” Qiu Wuhui said dejectedly.
“Weren’t you quite arrogant? What about now? Why aren’t you shouting at me anymore?”
“The victor is king, the loser is a bandit. I admit defeat. Do with me as you please, whether you kill me or flay me.”
“Heh, still quite unyielding. I don’t keep young masters here. Young Master Qiu, have a good journey!”
As Tian Ming spoke, he raised the gun in his hand and pressed it against Qiu Wuhui’s forehead.
“No, don’t shoot!” Qiu Wuhui suddenly cried out, his voice trembling, his eyes filled with fear.
“What, Young Master Qiu? Didn’t you say I could kill or flay you as I pleased? Why are you suddenly scared now?” A cold smile appeared on Tian Ming’s face.
“Boss!” Doggy’s voice came from far to near, and with a bang, he directly crashed through the door.
“What’s wrong? Why are you so flustered?” Tian Ming said with some displeasure.
“Rocket Troopers! Two Rocket Troopers have arrived! They’re in the open space west of the Shelter!” Doggy said, panting heavily, out of breath.
Tian Ming frowned: “Tie him up for me. I’ll go take a look.”
Tian Ming walked out of the room and quickly ran towards the open space to the west. His heart was filled with confusion. What Rocket Troopers? Could it be that Red Alert had descended?
When Tian Ming arrived at the open space, a group of his subordinates surrounded the two strangely dressed people who had descended from the sky.
The two were also very nervous, holding pistols in their hands and standing back-to-back in a defensive posture.
“Who are you?” Looking at these strange things, Tian Ming felt his eyes had been opened.
One of them took off his flight helmet; it was a young man, in his twenties.
Tian Ming waved his hand, and his subordinates put away their compound crossbows.
“Are you the leader of this Shelter?” the young man asked Tian Ming.
“Our Shelter has no leader. This is our Boss!”
The young man quickly said: “Don’t misunderstand, I’m from the research institute ten kilometers away. Our side has already fallen, and there are zombies everywhere. We saw human activity here, so we flew over. We didn’t expect it to actually be a Shelter.”
Tian Ming frowned and asked, “Ten kilometers away? You can see that far?”
“Our base has equipment directly linked to satellites, so we can see. Now the base’s energy has been exhausted, Leader, please take us in!”
Tian Ming looked at the young man, then at his companion behind him, deep in thought.
“Since you are from a research institute, then you should have a lot of advanced technology, right?” Tian Ming asked tentatively.
The young man nodded: “Yes, a lot, including aircraft, weapons, and high-performance battery technology. All the research institute’s data has been brought out by me. These achievements must not be destroyed by the disaster.”
Just as he was feeling sleepy, a pillow appeared. Tian Ming immediately smiled.
“What’s your name?”
“Shen Yi,” the young man quickly replied.
“And the one next to you, aren’t you going to introduce yourself?” Tian Ming asked, looking at Shen Yi’s companion.
“She is my younger sister, Shen Yuan.”
Shen Yuan gently took off her flight helmet, her long hair flowing like a waterfall.
Tian Ming looked at Shen Yuan; she was quite pure-looking, with clear and bright eyes, but not grand enough. Without taking off her helmet, he might have thought she was a tomboy.
“My name is Tian Ming. You two siblings can call me by my name. Come with me, I’ll arrange a place for you.” Two high-end talents were treasures to Tian Ming.
His abilities needed to be combined with professional knowledge to maximize their effectiveness.
For example, alloys and polymer compounds, these all required specific material ratios to be reconstructed.
Therefore, professional knowledge from various industries was extremely valuable wealth to Tian Ming.
There were many rooms in the dormitory next to the Central Building of the scrap steel factory. Although this building was a bit old, the critical parts had been reinforced by Tian Ming.
Shen Yi and Shen Yuan, the two siblings, were taken to the third floor. Tian Ming personally allocated the most spacious and largest rooms to them.
This building had ten floors, with twelve rooms on each floor. Tian Ming had not arranged for anyone to live there. This building was reserved for fated people.
What were fated people? They were capable individuals who could bring about earth-shattering changes to the Shelter.
“We are a scrap steel factory here, so there’s no electricity. I do have a lot of power sources, but I’m not very good at making inverters. I can’t make high-power inverters,” Tian Ming said with an awkward smile.
Shen Yi placed his air flight backpack on the ground and said, “Inverters are simple; it’s just hard to find capacitors, resistors, and chips now. If I had the complete tools, I could solder one for you right now.”
The furniture in the room was all arranged by Tian Ming, and the conditions were quite good.
Shen Yi’s eyes were immediately drawn to a black stool. He walked over and picked up the stool. It was very light but exceptionally sturdy.
“The material of this stool?”
“Oh, it’s carbon fiber!” Tian Ming said with a smile.
“Tens of thousands of yuan per kilogram of high-purity carbon fiber, used to make a stool.” As a researcher, this stool felt like a wasteful extravagance to Shen Yi.
Tian Ming smiled and said, “The zombies have broken out, and money has all become waste paper. Come, have some water!”
Tian Ming waved his hand, and two cups of water appeared on the table. This move startled Shen Yi greatly.
People involved in research are inherently rigorous; this was simply not like magic.
“Brother Tian Ming, how, how did you do that?”
“I can manipulate microscopic particles, atoms, molecules, protons, and such.”
Shen Yi and Shen Yuan were shocked, speechless for a long time. Now they understood why there was a pure carbon fiber stool in the room.
Because the basic structure of carbon fiber is simple enough, but in reality, it is extremely difficult to manufacture.
“Your ability, doesn’t it violate physics a bit?”
Tian Ming smiled calmly and said, “Physics seems not to exist for me. But there are also limitations; I cannot manipulate organisms larger than viruses.”
Shen Yi excitedly grasped Tian Ming’s hand and said, “During this zombie outbreak, we connected remotely with several research institutions and analyzed the virus. Then we did an evolution, and this virus will infect ninety-five percent of humanity within ten years. We were filled with despair, Brother, do you know? Your ability can save humanity.”
Tian Ming withdrew his hand. Shen Yi’s words reminded him of Xiaoya. Although it happened not long ago, in Tian Ming’s memory, it felt quite distant.
“Shen Yi, I can’t save that many people. I’ve looked at this virus; an infected person has at least ten different types of virus samples in their body, and each sample needs to be exploded one by one. I’ve tried it, and I might not be able to explode all the viruses in their body even after they complete their mutation. This kind of thing is meaningless. Even if I sit here, with infected people lining up one by one, for ten years, without eating, drinking, or sleeping, I still wouldn’t be able to save many people.”
“But we can create antibodies based on the samples!” Shen Yi said.
Tian Ming shook his head slightly and said, “The mutation is too fast; you won’t have time. When I escaped the city, I already encountered zombies whose skin had fused with metal. Shen Yi, work well for the Shelter, and I will fulfill your requests. But don’t use morality and responsibility to bind me. I won’t spend my time on meaningless things.”
