156: It's your own fault

The next morning, the people at East District Seaport, holding a stack of documents, waited with anticipation for the rescue to arrive. However, the anticipated helicopter never appeared in the sky.

There was some unease in the crowd. Everyone was thinking, "Is it because Manager He offended that young man, so they aren't sending anyone to rescue us?"

He Zhenjun felt a knot of anxiety in his heart. He knew that his status and influence had been greatly diminished by his foolishness. He wanted to regain some face but didn't know how.

The rescue was long overdue, and everyone's gaze had already changed. Everyone was thinking, "Is it because Manager He offended that person yesterday, which is why they aren't coming to rescue us today?"

Finally, someone in the crowd couldn't help but speak up: "I don't think they're coming. It's all thanks to this idiot, who just had to act like a big shot. Now look? We'll all die together, since the food is gone anyway."

This statement clearly incited everyone's dissatisfaction.

He Zhenjun's face flushed crimson as he retorted, "What do you all know? Don't helicopters need fuel? Maybe something happened midway, causing a delay. Being so impatient, you deserve to work your whole lives."

"What did you say? Say it again if you dare."

The dissatisfaction in the crowd, like dry tinder, was ignited by He Zhenjun's words and spread rapidly. A young man glared angrily, and He Zhenjun was so intimidated by his gaze that he instinctively took a step back.

The speaker was a maintenance engineer. Because he often had to go out to inspect equipment and external devices, he was very strong. He walked towards He Zhenjun, holding a huge wrench in his hand.

"What are you trying to do? Are you rebelling?" He Zhenjun asked with a trembling voice.

The maintenance engineer said with a cold face, "He Fatty, do you still think you're the Manager? I'm telling you now, if the rescue doesn't come in another hour, you can go to hell!"

With that, the maintenance engineer turned directly and no longer paid attention to He Zhenjun. He Zhenjun stood rooted to the spot, trembling with anger, his heart filled with fear and fury. He dared not speak carelessly again, or he might be killed by these survivors.

The others stared coldly at He Zhenjun. If the helicopter didn't come, these angry people would surely tear He Zhenjun to pieces.

An hour passed in a flash. He Zhenjun stared eagerly at the open space outside the window, his heart dead.

Someone in the crowd said pessimistically, "It looks like the rescue won't come. He Fatty, it's all because of your so-called pride that everyone has to wait here to die."

A wave of despair rose in the crowd. Everyone glared angrily, surrounding He Zhenjun tightly. Some clenched their fists, others held wrenches and steel pipes, slowly closing in on He Zhenjun.

"What are you doing? I didn't expect that young man to be so petty, actually taking personal revenge," He Zhenjun said, terrified, quickly trying to explain.

But the crowd wouldn't listen to his explanation. An engineer rushed forward with a wrench and slammed it hard onto his leg.

With a crack, He Zhenjun's shin bone was brutally broken, followed by a piercing scream.

"Ah... What are you doing? You bastards, I'm your Manager! Is there no law anymore?"

He Zhenjun lay on the ground, sweating profusely from the pain, screaming loudly. Everyone else looked on indifferently, as if all of this was perfectly natural.

Another man, holding a large pipe wrench, slammed it hard onto He Zhenjun's arm. With a crack, He Zhenjun's arm was also broken. His face instantly turned pale, and he was too much in pain to scream anymore.

"This kind of person deserves to die. For his own damn pride, he treats everyone's lives as a joke. Otherwise, why wouldn't the helicopter come? He should be killed," a survivor said coldly.

"Yes, he should be killed," the others echoed, rushing forward with their tools.

He Zhenjun curled up on the ground, trembling all over, large beads of sweat rolling down his forehead. He understood the anger and despair of these people. At this moment, his heart was full of regret, but it was already too late.

Just then, a faint buzzing sound echoed in the distance.

"They're here, they're here, the helicopter is here," He Zhenjun said with great difficulty, spitting blood and barely conscious.

Everyone stopped, looking at each other, then at He Zhenjun, who was sprawled on the ground. The sound of the helicopter rotors grew closer, and the entire hall became as silent as death.

"He definitely won't survive. Even if he does, he'll be a cripple," someone in the crowd said.

"Yes, kill him. Throw him behind the building. For the past six months, he's just been fooling us. I've had enough of this fat man."

A maintenance engineer in the crowd spoke up, "Since he won't survive, let's just kill him directly and then throw him in a corner."

The others nodded, their eyes filled with resentment and fury. Their hatred for He Zhenjun was deeply ingrained.

He Zhenjun lay on the ground, in so much pain that he had almost lost consciousness, only mumbling incessantly, "Don't, don't, don't leave me, helicopter, save me..."

...

In front of the East District Seaport building plaza, two large transport helicopters landed. The people inside the building also came to the edge of the plaza.

Tian Ming disembarked from the helicopter, looking at these people. Their expressions were very strange. They were all well-educated intellectuals, yet they had killed He Zhenjun.

"Have you all organized your information?" Tian Ming asked.

Everyone nodded, their faces somewhat pale.

At this moment, Lin Yue also stepped down from the helicopter. She said to the crowd, "Everyone listen to me, there are only two transport helicopters, each capable of carrying 60 to 70 people at a time. So, we need to divide into two groups. Women and the elderly will go first. If you understand, come and hand in your documents."

Immediately, some people in the crowd spontaneously organized themselves. Lin Yue collected the documents while arranging for them to board the helicopter. The helicopter's cargo hold was used to transport personnel; a single transport helicopter could only fit about 30 people at most, so they planned to make two trips.

The personnel boarded the transport helicopters in an orderly fashion. Tian Ming stood to the side, watching these people. The men who had attacked He Zhenjun stood further back in the crowd, constantly wiping bloodstains from their hands.

This naturally caught Tian Ming's attention, and he walked over. The men looked at Tian Ming approaching them, and expressions of panic appeared on their faces.

"What's going on with you guys? I was just a little late, did you fight?" Tian Ming asked.

At this moment, Lin Yue walked over: "Boss, all the first group of people have boarded the plane."

Tian Ming nodded: "Alright, let Liu Chuan fly first. You and I will stay here to count the second group."
