400: Nano transformation
Inside the Energy Research Institute, within the Underground City of the East Sea City Base.
A naked man sat on the experimental bed; it was Mo Fei, his face contorted in extreme pain. Tian Ming was slowly decomposing and extracting the toxins from his body.
Several researchers nearby were calibrating instruments, and a Red Crystal Core was being dissolved in a reaction tank, transforming into pure energy droplets.
Professor Zhang walked forward and said, “Mr. Lu, his gene sequencing is complete. It’s a mixed toxin that caused mutations at over a dozen points in his genes, allowing his body to resist the invasion of the toxic mist. This kind of short-term mutation phenomenon is similar to zombie mutation.”
“Hmph, don’t compare me to those man-eating monsters!” Mo Fei said, displeased.
“Shut up!” Tian Ming snorted coldly, and Mo Fei immediately closed his mouth, not daring to speak.
This guy was stubborn, but his life was even tougher. Just a basic Superpower Potion could develop his body to such an extent.
Professor Zhang looked at Mo Fei and asked, “Did you participate in the Super Soldier Project before?”
Mo Fei pouted and said, “I’m just an ordinary civilian. I’ve never even heard of any Super Soldier Project.”
Tian Ming frowned, “If you keep saying ‘I’m your daddy,’ I’ll kill you!”
“You saved me, so wouldn’t killing me now be a huge loss?”
Professor Zhang smoothed things over, saying, “Mr. Lu, it can be confirmed now that he is our best candidate. Currently, only ten percent of his internal organ function remains, but it’s barely usable.”
Mo Fei looked at Professor Zhang strangely and asked, “Old man, what do you want to do?”
Professor Zhang glanced at Mo Fei and said, “The Energy Research Institute and the Nanometer Material Laboratory need to find an experimental subject who will only retain his brain, with the rest of his body replaced by nanometer machinery.”
Mo Fei was stunned and quickly asked, “You, are you trying to make me ascend mechanically?”
Professor Zhang nodded slightly and said, “That’s right. In fact, the essence of ability still comes from the strength of consciousness. Your body can be said to be already dead, but your consciousness is stubbornly holding on. Even if Mr. Lu extracts the toxins from your body, your organ functions are already Waste ( Waste) useless. You are currently sustained by the energy of the Superpower Potion. I’ve never seen anyone survive this long in such a state.”
Mo Fei’s expression was strange, and after a moment of thought, he asked, “If I agree, does that mean I’ll be able to go anywhere and do anything?”
Professor Zhang smiled and said, “It’s not that exaggerated. It’s more like a robot. However, your body will be composed of nanometer particles. If it truly succeeds, you will become a pure warrior.”
Mo Fei wasn’t stupid. This kind of mechanical modification was different from the Superpower Potion. A body modified by the Superpower Potion was still flesh and blood, and the Superpower Potion needed continuous injection. But the combination of human and machine was different; the energy supply was more extensive, and basically, with enough parts, one could achieve eternal life.
“So, failure means I’ll die, right?” A flicker of light flashed in Mo Fei’s eyes as he asked.
Professor Zhang nodded slightly and said, “Yes. In the initial stage, this process will be very painful, like undergoing an unavoidable torture of consciousness.”
Mo Fei grinned and said, “I’m not even afraid of death. Is there anything more terrifying than death?”
Tian Ming looked at Mo Fei’s stubbornness and poured a bucket of cold water on him: “Once you’ve tasted it, you’ll know what it means to wish you were dead.”
“Then I definitely want to experience it, to see what kind of pain can be more painful than losing my wife and children!” The reason Mo Fei wanted to kill more zombies was precisely because his closest relatives died at the hands of zombies. He escaped, or more accurately, he didn't escape to survive, but to take revenge.
After signing the consent form, Mo Fei was pushed into the Laboratory, and the Laboratory door slowly closed. Professor Zhang placed the energy droplets, transformed from the Red Crystal Core, onto the automatic injection mechanical arm. And a dark, jelly-like substance was in another injection tube.
This dark substance was the nanometer robots. The Red Crystal Core’s energy substance would be gradually pushed into Mo Fei’s brain, and the nanometer robots would self-replicate after receiving energy.
The Red Crystal Core’s energy, directly entering the brain, would rapidly amplify consciousness and provide ample energy for it. The Energy Research Institute had researched for such a long time and had already mastered the relationship between the propulsion dosage and the nanometer robots. With sufficient energy, consciousness could control the nanometer robots injected simultaneously.
Mo Fei lay on the experimental bed, looking at the ceiling above him. He was silent. The adrenaline in his body was almost depleted, and a feeling of weakness came over him. The pain had already begun.
“Throughout the process, you must maintain consciousness. If you cannot, the nanometer robots injected into your body will lose control and be unable to complete the replacement of your body.”
Mo Fei nodded slightly and said, “I understand. Let’s begin!”
As soon as Mo Fei finished speaking, an extremely thin silver needle directly pierced his neck. He only felt a slight prickling pain, and all his muscles went offline. He was completely unable to move, not even to speak.
His breathing instantly stopped, his heart also stopped beating, and his brain rapidly entered a state of hypoxia. At this moment, being conscious was undoubtedly terrifying; the feeling of death was extremely strong, as if he was welded shut, unable to move or breathe.
An ordinary person whose heart suddenly stopped would immediately fall into a coma and then die from full-body hypoxia. But Mo Fei maintained a certain degree of consciousness.
At this moment, another slender needle pierced through the thinnest part of his skull, and the energy liquid transformed from the Red Crystal Core rapidly entered his brain.
What does it mean for one’s head to feel like it’s splitting open? That’s exactly how Mo Fei felt at this moment. His brain rapidly changed from a hypoxic state to a charged state. The Red Crystal Core’s energy was like generators installed in all his brain cells, and a large amount of bioelectricity was directly conducted through his spinal cord into the small cluster of nanometer robots in his neck.
This small cluster of nanometer robots began to devour Mo Fei’s cells and replicate themselves frantically. The replicated nanometer robots continued to devour more cells. This chain reaction was taking place in Mo Fei’s body, and from a macroscopic perspective, it looked as if an invisible fire was calcining his body.
The nanometer robots replicated using Mo Fei’s body as raw material, a principle somewhat similar to Tian Ming’s Nanometer Avatar. However, this process was more like replacement, replacing all of his body cells with nanometer robots.
Pain, fear, and unease made Mo Fei’s consciousness boil like furiously bubbling water, but his body could not make any resistance, and he couldn't even withdraw or stop.
