43: Departure to Crescent Lake
The zombies in the city evolved in various ways.
Tian Ming was truly an eye-opener; there were all kinds of zombies.
Those covered in metal or plastic were the most common.
And the Metal Zombies were only single-metal, with copper, iron, zinc, and aluminum, among others.
"Boss, these zombies' evolution is all unidirectional.
They can only convert one element, and this element can only act upon themselves," Shen Yuan said.
Tian Ming nodded slightly: "I can see that too; most evolutions are incomplete.
The same type of zombie will gather together; this situation feels a bit interesting."
Bang!
A black shadow descended from the sky, crashing directly down.
Tian Ming slammed on the brakes, and Shen Yuan was instantly startled.
In front of the vehicle, a giant zombie appeared.
This zombie glowed with an antique bronze luster all over its body, which was covered in a thick layer of copper armor.
Its right arm, however, was somewhat strange; it appeared much thicker than its left, with a deep black surface, as if it had been scorched.
Tian Ming felt a chill in his heart; now he understood why the Materials Group had suffered such heavy losses recently.
It was no wonder there were heavy losses when zombies of this physique had evolved.
"What should we do, Boss?" Shen Yuan was instantly afraid; after all, she was just a young girl who had recently left school, and the scene before her was far more stimulating than any disaster movie.
"It's fine, it's just a copper lump; sit still, I'll go deal with it."
Tian Ming pulled open the car door and stepped out.
The copper-armored zombie stared at Tian Ming with eyes as wide as copper bells.
An invisible air shield had already formed around Tian Ming's body.
"Good dogs don't block the road; move aside quickly."
The copper-armored zombie seemed to understand Tian Ming's words, but he did not move aside; instead, he took a step forward.
His speed was slow, but each step made the ground tremble slightly, as if an earthquake were occurring.
Swish, swish, countless carbon fiber threads suddenly extended from the ground, wrapping directly around the copper-armored zombie.
Tian Ming's control over matter became increasingly skilled; in just a few seconds, the copper-armored zombie was already bound like a rice dumpling.
The texture of copper was much softer than iron, and as the zombie struggled, the carbon fiber threads cut into its body like knives.
Zombies of this level had already developed a sense of pain.
With the pain, it struggled even more fiercely.
In less than a moment, this copper-armored zombie was cut into pieces by the carbon fiber threads.
In one minute, it completely lost its combat ability.
"Tch, I thought it was so powerful; trash!"
Tian Ming said disdainfully, then directly opened the car door, got in, and restarted the car.
Shen Yuan looked at Tian Ming and asked incredulously, "That's it? It's solved?"
She had originally expected some earth-shattering grand scene, but she hadn't anticipated that the zombie would struggle and cut itself into pieces.
"What else did you want?
In your eyes, it's invulnerable and awesome.
In my eyes, it's nothing but trash, absolutely worthless."
"If I had your ability, I would make it die even faster."
Shen Yuan was a bit annoyed by Tian Ming's show-off demeanor; he was too conceited, like a small person who had achieved success.
But then, Tian Ming retorted, leaving her speechless.
"If you had my ability, would you still be begging me to take you out?
You, you just talk big without understanding the effort."
People with high education like Shen Yuan always had a strange sense of superiority in front of Tian Ming.
There was no awe of a subordinate towards Tian Ming's attitude.
Therefore, Tian Ming didn't want to humor her; if he didn't show this little girl a bit of his power, she might ride over his head in the future.
The two drove to their destination.
Looking at the towering telecommunications building, Tian Ming frowned slightly.
This building had over 50 floors and was an office building.
He wondered how Zhang Meiqi, the one called, was doing on the top floor.
"Contact them and say we're downstairs," Tian Ming said.
Shen Yuan quickly used the radio to make contact, and soon, she received a message.
"She replied; the elevator inside the building is damaged, and there are zombies on every floor.
She told us to be careful," Shen Yuan said.
Tian Ming pondered for a moment and said, "I'll give you two choices: first, come in with me to pick up the person; second, you wait for me outside."
Shen Yuan wasn't stupid; Tian Ming could take care of zombies in no time.
She naturally wouldn't be foolish enough to stay outside alone; staying with Tian Ming was the safest choice.
"I'll go up with you!" Shen Yuan said without hesitation.
"Alright, then you'll have to stick close to me.
Don't blame me if you fall behind."
"What do you mean?"
"Literal meaning!"
Tian Ming was too lazy to explain and was the first to step into the telecommunications building.
Shen Yuan immediately followed him.
When they entered the telecommunications building, what greeted their eyes was a chaotic scene.
Computer equipment was scattered everywhere, and the floor was full of damaged wires and broken glass.
The entire floor was filled with dust and the smell of decay, making one uncomfortable.
"The situation here is worse than we imagined."
Tian Ming frowned, carefully stepping, observing the surrounding environment.
"Awooo!"
The sound of zombies came from the hallway, and Shen Yuan's scalp instantly tingled.
She quickly stepped forward and grabbed Tian Ming.
"What, scared?" Tian Ming found it a bit amusing; she was just arguing with him in the car, and now she was like a little bunny, so timid?
Shen Yuan's face was full of fear, but her mouth was still stubborn: "It's okay, not too scared."
"Heh!
Let's go; we can't take the elevator, so we'll go up the stairs."
The hallway door had been locked.
When the zombie outbreak occurred, the people downstairs directly locked the hallway door to prevent the zombies from getting out.
This was a permanent solution; not only could the zombies upstairs not come down, but the people trapped upstairs couldn't come down either.
Doing this was extremely immoral.
Under Tian Ming's control, the lock cylinder dissolved and disappeared.
The moment the door was pulled open, an extremely strong stench assaulted them.
It was a smell of rotten eggs mixed with herring cans and the ultimate stinky tofu.
Tian Ming rolled his eyes, being overwhelmed by the smell, while Shen Yuan behind him retched, almost throwing up on Tian Ming.
"Why don't you just wait for me in the car?
Why make things difficult for yourself?" Tian Ming said, looking at Shen Yuan's flushed face.
"No, what if a zombie attacks me?
What will I do?
I want to follow you." Shen Yuan refused without hesitation.
Tian Ming nodded and walked into the hallway.
The hallway was a mess, incredibly dim, but one could vaguely see blackened bloodstains on the walls, hair scattered on the stairs, broken bones, and charred grease formed by accumulated fat.
A sticky feeling came from underfoot, like stepping in a puddle of mud.
But Shen Yuan knew that these were the concentrated remains of the zombies' meals.
Fear instantly struck, and a chill surged from the bottom of her heart.
The sticky feeling underfoot made her scalp tingle, and Shen Yuan felt her head buzzing.
The foul odor in the air made her feel suffocated.
