36: Zombies attack the shelter

Around the perimeter of the Shelter, scattered zombies appeared, advancing along the main road from the highway, surging towards the Shelter.

The Materials Group team, who had been out gathering supplies, drove back, their faces pale with fright.

This time, they had encountered a Metal Zombie, its entire body covered in metal, gnawing on iron blocks.

Moreover, behind this Metal Zombie, a large horde of ordinary zombies followed; although they escaped by car, these zombies had trailed them all the way.

There were at least several thousand of them, surging like a tide. Tian Ming stood at the Shelter's perimeter, speaking into his walkie-talkie: "Doggo, notify everyone to take Shelter inside the buildings, don't run around. Patrol teams, in groups of four, defend the inner walls on the west and south sides. Once zombies enter, attack immediately."

"Understood, Doggo!" Doggo's voice came through the walkie-talkie.

"Qiu Wuhui, you are responsible for bringing out the three Materials Group teams to guard the Shelter's main gate from inside the barbed wire."

Soon, Qiu Wuhui replied, "Understood!"

Director Han stood beside Tian Ming, carrying a black backpack and holding a machine gun. Inside the backpack were over ten kilograms of copper blocks.

With these copper blocks, Tian Ming could continuously generate bullets in Director Han's magazines using only his mind.

The women inside the Shelter were huddled in the dormitory building, their eyes filled with fear and unease. The men, however, were armed, some patrolling, others defending.

On the outer road, Tian Ming watched the approaching zombies, knowing this would be a tough fight. Some zombies took an unusual route, creeping towards the southeast.

But the vast majority of zombies still came from the flat road.

Tian Ming glanced at Director Han and said, "My control range is eight meters; prepare to fire."

Director Han nodded, her light machine gun already aimed forward.

Tian Ming closed his eyes, his mind instantly covering an eight-meter radius around him.

The space within eight meters formed an invisible barrier, and the surrounding air vibrated violently. The moisture in the air was decomposed into hydrogen and oxygen and held in place.

Seeing Tian Ming and Director Han standing openly on the road, a large mass of zombies surged towards them.

"Tat-tat-tat," Director Han pulled the trigger, and a tongue of flame shot from the machine gun's muzzle. Bullets, like a meteor shower, rained down on the zombie horde.

Thud, thud, thud, like harvesting wheat, large numbers of zombies fell in swathes.

In an instant, many zombies got back up; machine gun bullets left penetrating holes in their bodies but caused little damage.

For some reason, these zombies had developed a certain self-healing ability, and some even had a metallic sheen on their heads.

Thud, thud... Two black pillars emerged from the ground, and invisible nano-filaments appeared, coiling around the pillars.

These filaments could cut through metal like butter. The zombies charging at the front were sliced into pieces, and large numbers of zombies, pushing and shoving, were like entering a meat grinder.

"Why won't they die?" A hint of fear appeared in Director Han's eyes, because a small number of zombies, after being hit by bullets, only had small holes in their bodies and were completely unaffected, continuing to move.

Tian Ming knew these zombies had begun to evolve. However, a large number of zombies were still being cut into fragments by the nano-filaments.

Emptying a magazine only dealt with seven or eight zombies; their heads had to be completely shattered to incapacitate them.

Soon, some zombies that took unusual routes bypassed the road and rushed to the barbed wire defense line.

Qiu Wuhui gave the order, saying, "Open fire, don't let them through."

"Da da da," the automatic rifles in the Materials Group's hands roared, bullets raining down on the zombies, blocking their advance.

Boom, boom, Tian Ming directly conjured grenades and threw them at the zombies.

Get down!

Boom, a violent explosion, and flesh and blood splattered across the sky, viscous liquid raining down like drops.

Tian Ming already felt something was wrong; he could sense that the blood of these zombies was not ordinary blood at all, but filled with various heavy metals.

No wonder these guys mutated; they even gnaw on metal.

"Director Han, let's retreat," Tian Ming said.

Director Han nodded and turned to run back. Tian Ming followed closely, retreating while continuously throwing grenades at the pursuing zombies.

The zombies that were blown up were then immediately devoured by the zombies surging from behind. The scene made one's scalp tingle.

Why do these things cannibalize their own kind?

During the devouring process, Tian Ming noticed that the metallic sheen on these zombies' bodies became increasingly obvious.

Some zombies were completely covered in a layer of metal, and metallic barbs were growing outwards from their arms.

Almost everyone realized the seriousness of the problem: these zombies would not devour living comrades, but once one was killed, the surrounding zombies would swarm over and eat their comrade clean.

This was an extremely cruel and brutal method of evolution. As the number of attacking zombies decreased, the proportion of Metal Zombies grew larger and larger.

"Doggo said while fighting, "Damn it, Boss, they won't die! You have to blow their heads off with a whole magazine to kill them."

Tian Ming frowned, seeing more and more Metal Zombies in the horde.

His personal attack range was too short; he couldn't cover everything.

Suddenly, he saw a zombie not far away that wasn't attacking. Its body was intact, completely covered in metal. It just stood there, constantly howling, as if commanding the attack.

This wave of zombies numbered over a thousand, and such a dense attack didn't seem like something brainless zombies could accomplish.

"Doggo, hold the gate! I'm going to deal with their boss!" Tian Ming threw out this sentence and rushed towards that zombie.

Regardless of whether his guess was right or not, the behavior of these zombies must be related to this fully metallic zombie.

Tian Ming's actions attracted the attention of the surrounding zombies. They all turned their heads and lunged at him.

Tian Ming's speed did not decrease; those zombies, upon nearing within three meters of him, were repelled as if they had hit a wall.

Soon, he closed the distance to within thirty meters of that Metal Zombie.

The Metal Zombie seemed to sense Tian Ming's intention. It suddenly retreated backward, simultaneously commanding other zombies to block its path.

But under the protection of Tian Ming's air shield, no zombie could get close.

The Metal Zombie roared and pounced at Tian Ming.

Tian Ming looked at the pouncing Metal Zombie, a slight smile on his lips. Within eight meters was his home ground; after practicing for so long, even bullets could not penetrate the air shield he created.

The surrounding air instantly froze under his will, and the Metal Zombie was also fixed in place. It constantly twisted its body, trying to break free from this invisible restraint.

A layer of tough carbon fiber generated around the Metal Zombie, wrapping around it in circles. A minute later, the Metal Zombie was bound like a zongzi.

The reason Tian Ming didn't kill it was because he wanted to understand the reason for this zombie's evolution and whether it was related to his own ability.
