34: The centralized canteen opened, the food is so delicious that I want to cry

Three days later, the cafeteria in Factory Building No. 1 officially opened, and meal tickets and item vouchers began to be distributed.

The location of the cafeteria.

Both the meal tickets and item vouchers were manufactured by Tian Ming, made of plastic material and covered with a layer of Graphene.

They were similar to plastic banknotes but much sturdier; as long as they weren't thrown into a fire, they could last twenty to thirty years without issue.

There wasn't much design, just a simple pattern of a Shelter, with numbers marked on the item vouchers and weight marked on the meal tickets.

Everyone could receive a basic guaranteed 300 grams of meal tickets, with each ticket having denominations of 50 grams, 100 grams, 200 grams, and 500 grams.

In the future, working in the shelter will be directly compensated with meal tickets or item vouchers as wages.

Tian Ming had already issued an announcement: purified water is currently provided for free, and the basic 300 grams of food is a minimum living allowance, also provided for free.

Fuels such as gasoline and alcohol, as well as clothing and other items, all require item vouchers for exchange.

This meant the Shelter now had a basic economic cycle, with Lin Yue and Shen Yuan jointly responsible for managing the meal tickets and item vouchers.

Shen Yuan also designed a ticket simulation system directly on the computer, adjusting the quantity of meal tickets and item vouchers issued based on the daily balance of warehouse supplies.

Tickets are recycled through the cafeteria, Clinic, and item exchange points.

With this system, prices can also be adjusted based on the amount of recycling and issuance.

For example, if one thousand catties of meal tickets are issued, but there are only nine hundred catties in the warehouse, then one catty of meal tickets can only buy nine liang of rice.

That's the general idea.

On the day the central cafeteria opened, everyone lined up outside, ready to buy food.

There were too many people, several hundred.

They only had some coarse grains in their hands, and as they held their bowls and chopsticks, they couldn't help but drool at the steaming hot buns and steamed bread in the stainless steel steamer baskets.

Buns cost 50 grams of meal tickets each, steamed bread 50 grams of meal tickets each.

Pickles cost 50 grams of meal tickets per pack.

Eating two meals a day on the minimum living allowance was not a problem.

Noodles and ham sausage required 100 grams of meal tickets per serving, and canned beef, 300 grams of meal tickets per serving.

The cafeteria's dishes were not very diverse because there were no vegetables or fresh meat.

The bun fillings were all pickles, and other items were processed from canned food.

If this were before the Apocalypse, such a cafeteria would surely be cursed to high heaven.

But this was the Apocalypse; how many people hadn't eaten a hot meal?

Many people held their hot steamed buns, eating and crying.

Some people who earned meal tickets would buy a bowl of noodles and a can of beef, turning it directly into beef noodles, which they ate with great relish.

The more effort put in, the more meal tickets received.

If you eat steamed buns while others eat beef noodles, the difference quickly becomes apparent.

Such a disparity instantly stimulated the desire of those who were lazy to earn meal tickets and item vouchers.

Since the cafeteria opened, Gouzi issued a task: anyone who went out to collect supplies could receive 10% of the item's weight in meal tickets and vouchers.

This instantly boosted the enthusiasm of the collection team.

A team of four people carrying back one thousand catties of rice meant the team could receive one hundred catties of meal tickets.

This was equivalent to one person receiving 25 catties per mission, enough to eat the best food in the cafeteria.

Other tasks were also similar.

Tian Ming wanted to build several stone towers on the west side of the Shelter as watchtowers to defend against zombies.

This required more than ten tons of granite blocks.

This demand was conveyed to Gouzi, and within a day, more than ten tons of granite were already piled up at the construction site where the watchtowers were to be built.

Indeed, when everyone received supplies, there was no distinction between people, but after the implementation of meal tickets, everyone's enthusiasm for work increased significantly.

At the construction site, Mr. Yuan and Tian Ming stood together.

Looking at the granite piled up like a small mountain, Mr. Yuan said, “Boss, please convert these granite into powder.”

Tian Ming smiled and said, “I've already found cement samples.

I'll give you cement directly.

These granite can be used as raw material to become cement.”

Tian Ming activated his ability, and more than ten tons of stone turned into more than ten tons of cement.

Mr. Yuan became very excited.

With building materials, the watchtowers would not be a problem for him.

“Boss, I have one more request.”

Tian Ming nodded slightly and said, “I know, rebar, right?

Come to Factory Building No. 2 tomorrow to pick it up.”

Mr. Yuan nodded repeatedly and began to instruct the men to dig foundation pits in the ground.

Having money makes things easy.

A foundation pit cost 1000 grams of meal tickets, and as soon as the task was issued, it was immediately snatched up by people.

On Director Han's side, daily training had also been set up.

It is believed that before long, a well-ordered, highly autonomous Shelter base will emerge out of thin air.

“Boss, boss…” Gouzi ran over, panting.

“What's wrong?”

After Gouzi ran over, he paused and said, “The outposts we arranged on the road into the city have been a bit abnormal in the past few days.

More and more zombies are starting to appear.”

The so-called outposts were actually 3D imaging radars dismantled from cars.

Used for autonomous driving environment perception, Tian Ming equipped these radars with RF antennas and batteries and deployed them within a five-kilometer radius of the Shelter.

If a small number of zombies approached, the security personnel within the Shelter would actively attack and eliminate the threat outside.

If a large number of zombies approached, it could also provide an early warning for the Shelter.

This defense line was built by Shen Yuan.

Shen Yi and Shen Yuan, the siblings, were indeed very capable; basically, anything involving the modification of electronic products was handled by the two of them.

When Gouzi said there was an anomaly, Tian Ming immediately took it seriously and asked, “What anomaly?

Are there more zombies?”

Gouzi shook his head slightly and said, “No, zombies don't have much brain, and those that got close were dealt with by the guard team.

But Sister Shen Yuan said there's periodic signal interference; for one-third of the day, we can't receive any images.”

“Is that a problem with the equipment?” Tian Ming asked.

There's no electricity in the city now, so where would signal interference come from?

Tian Ming was also very puzzled by this.

However, if signal interference affected the early warning, then these radars would become useless.

This certainly wouldn't do!

What if a large number of zombies approached and the Shelter had no warning?

Wouldn't that be a direct face-ride?

Gouzi said, “Boss, you should go find Sister Shen Yuan.

I don't really understand what she told me.

She said we need a double-insurance, and the warning range needs to be expanded.”

Tian Ming nodded slightly and said, “Alright, I'll go find her now.”

Knock, knock, knock…

A knock sounded, the door opened, and Shen Yuan stretched lazily, wearing a loose robe like a bathrobe.

In her room, there were four or five computers of various sizes.

Besides that, there was a large workbench.

On the workbench, ventilation equipment was whirring, and it was cluttered with all sorts of chips and devices.

Although the room allocated to her was already very large and had been divided into two, the inner room was where she slept, and the outer room had become a studio.

“Boss, you're here?” Shen Yuan said lazily.

“Your house is a bit…”

Shen Yuan said indifferently, “I know, it's a bit messy, right?”

Shen Yuan glanced at Tian Ming and said, “Gouzi told you, right?

Come on, come in first.

I'll wash my face.

Please wait a moment, and I'll explain it to you properly.”
