438: Ability Prohibition
The Rebel Army's reception went very smoothly; after all, with Tian Ming overseeing the entire group, no one dared to harbor any dissenting thoughts.
A year later, all the Rebel Army's semi-mechanical bodies were converted back by Tian Ming. The dyson sphere construction plan also officially began after being signed off by the Space Administration.
Inside the Space City Bureau of Public Security's interrogation office, Director Han sat in the center of the interrogation room. On the interrogation chair sat a man, a power-suppressing collar around his neck.
"What's your name?"
"Liu Wei!"
"It is forbidden to use abilities throughout Space City. Are you not aware of this?" Director Han asked coldly.
"Send me back to Blue Star. I don't belong here." Liu Wei did not deny his violation, his voice instead carrying a hint of weariness.
Ability Users manipulate elements by drawing corresponding elements from their surroundings. On the ground, most Ability Users draw elements from underground or from specific points. However, in Space City, Ability Users have become a dangerous existence.
When these Ability Users use their abilities, the elements they draw naturally cause damage to the structure of Space City.
Therefore, in Space City, any act of using abilities to draw elements is illegal, unless one can directly convert elements like Tian Ming, without causing damage to Space City.
Director Han said sternly, "You want to go back to Blue Star, and you can just go back?"
Liu Wei showed a bitter smile on his face: "I applied for a resource collection job for the dyson sphere, but the engineering department rejected me on the grounds that I wasn't an Ability User of the relevant element. So what could I do? I could only protest this way. I accept whatever punishment I face."
Director Han sighed and said to the mechanical police officer beside her, "Take him away and deal with him according to the regulations."
The mechanical police officer led Liu Wei away. At this moment, the door to the interrogation room was pushed open. A young man in his twenties walked in.
"Mom!"
Director Han glared at him and said, "Don't call me Mom at work!"
"Director Han!" The man smiled and quickly corrected himself.
The person who entered was Han Yi, Director Han's son, the little boy who was once rescued by Director Han and Tian Ming together. Later, Director Han adopted him.
Director Han never found another partner and raised Xiao Yi alone. Later, Xiao Yi changed his name to Han Yi, taking Director Han's surname.
Although he was not her biological son, he was better than a biological son. During the catastrophe of the Apocalypse, Han Yi received an excellent education. After completing his studies, he also joined the Space Administration's Bureau of Public Security with his mother.
Director Han rubbed her temples and said, "Have you taken care of what I told you?"
Han Yi nodded, "Yes, it's done. Too many people have been using their abilities privately lately. According to our investigation, the leader of these Second-Class Ability Users and below is named Liu Wei. The reactions from other interrogation rooms are consistent; they are trying to return to Blue Star and leave Space City through this method."
"Blue Star's ecosystem is deteriorating and is still in recovery, making it unsuitable for human habitation. Space City currently does not have the extra capacity to transform Blue Star's ecology."
Han Yi nodded slightly and asked, "Director Han, does this need to be reported? If this continues, it's not a solution. These rejected Ability Users are a potential hidden danger in Space City."
Director Han pondered for a moment and said, "Report it, and also contact the General Construction Bureau's engineering department to see if they can provide other work for these people."
Han Yi nodded slightly, "Okay, I'll go contact them now."
Han Yi left, and Director Han leaned back in her chair. With Space City's intelligent security management, her position as director was a rather leisurely one. After subduing the Rebel Army, Space City's AI, in addition to Number Three, now also included Tian Quan.
Director Han leaned back in her chair and let out a long sigh. Life had become more comfortable, and she no longer faced much pressure. Such days, however, felt somewhat uncomfortable.
"Director Han, Meng Zong is looking for you. He's in his office." The voice from her earpiece sounded.
"Understood. Tell him to wait a moment." Director Han said, then stood up, tidied her appearance, took a deep breath, and walked out of the interrogation room.
Since Tian Ming subdued the Rebel Army, the boss had taken his family on a trip. Humans hadn't even left the Milky Way, yet the boss could instantly traverse the entire universe. Walking down the corridor towards the office, Director Han's thoughts continued to churn.
She wondered where the boss was now. Although they could contact the boss through Number Three's hyper-dimensional communication, Space City would not easily disturb their family.
She gently knocked on the door, then pushed it open and entered. Meng Xian stood up when he saw Director Han arrive.
"Meng Zong, you were looking for me?"
Meng Xian nodded slightly, motioning for Director Han to sit down.
"It's been a year since the Rebel Army incident, and with the boss away, it seems these former Rebel Army Ability Users are about to start again."
Director Han smiled calmly and said, "Meng Zong, this matter is not as serious as you think. The complete prohibition of abilities in Space City feels like a cage for Ability Users who cannot go outside. The concentrated instances of destructive ability use during this period are very minor in extent; they are more like expressions of protest."
"Have you found out who the leader is?" Meng Xian asked.
"Yes, we found out; it's someone named Chen Wei. These people want to return to Blue Star, is that possible...?" Director Han asked with a hint of inquiry in her tone.
Meng Xian tapped the table lightly, evidently also considering how to settle the Ability Users. Currently, a large number of mechanical devices have gone to mine asteroid fields. The spherical area of the dyson sphere is meant to encompass an entire star, and this construction period will be incredibly long, even longer than human history.
The entire Blue Star receives one 2.2 billionth of the sun's energy. This proportion is very small, but the energy is immense. To maximize the utilization of stellar energy, the first phase of the encircling project is estimated to take over 10,000 years to build, at which point stellar energy utilization will significantly improve.
Under such energy levels, the construction speed will grow exponentially, but it is still estimated to take tens of thousands of years to build the energy collection device that will completely envelop the entire star.
At that time, all planets orbiting the sun, including Blue Star, would have to be dismantled to build high-efficiency energy conversion panels, commonly known as solar panels.
This project is too vast. Space City even specifically discussed the future of Blue Star: whether it should become raw material for production or be restored ecologically as a monument.
For human civilization to become a Type II civilization, fully utilizing the energy of its home star system is one of the essential thresholds to cross.
The protests from these Ability Users are not conducive to the overall layout of Space City, which gives Meng Xian a huge headache. The number of Ability Users is approximately 150,000. Although they don't make up a large proportion of the population, their abilities are a potential risk factor. Meng Xian, as a Second-Class Ability User himself, has a deeper understanding of this matter than others.
