74: Unfair resistance
Qiu Qian looked at Tian Ming, who glanced at her, and her heart skipped a beat. Her boss seemed different from before, as if a hint of weariness had been added.
"Boss, what's wrong? Did I do something wrong?" Qiu Qian asked softly, not even daring to meet Tian Ming's gaze.
"Let's go. I'm fine. You have a second consciousness within you that I can't remove. However, it won't harm you."
Qiu Qian's heart tightened, somewhat unable to accept the news.
"Get out," Tian Ming said indifferently.
"Boss, I..."
"Get out!" Tian Ming interrupted.
Qiu Qian had no choice but to leave dejectedly. At this moment, an inexpressible look flickered in Tian Ming's eyes. His gaze turned towards the sky, seemingly contemplating something.
The rules and fragmentation mentioned by the woman in his dream, he seemed to understand some of it. God, in itself, is the embodiment of rules, and his control over matter is essentially his dominance over rules.
But it didn't seem complete, and there were many limitations, such as conscious life forms, and the scope of control. These made him feel that he was not a true God, but rather a spokesperson for God.
Even being a spokesperson was not bad. Tian Ming no longer thought about those annoying things. He knew that the consciousness called God did not reject him; otherwise, it would not have chosen to continue sleeping.
And the dream Tian Ming had was more like a hint given to him by God. But what the hint was, Tian Ming had no clue. For things he had no clue about, he decided not to think about them. One day, everything would become clear.
Boom! A loud explosion came from inside the shed. Immediately after, there was a burst of gunfire, which then quickly returned to silence.
"What's going on?" Tian Ming asked into the walkie-talkie.
Mr. Yuan's voice came through the walkie-talkie: "Boss, an explosion. Someone made a homemade bomb and detonated it in the shed. Ten people died."
"Why? Did the Shelter mistreat them? Are they protesting this way?"
Tian Ming's eyes turned cold, and he stood up. He strode out the door and rushed towards the shed.
Work had already stopped inside the shed. There was more than one person who planted the bombs; there were three in total. Two were shot dead, and one was shot in the abdomen but not killed, and was restrained by the Enforcement Team.
When Tian Ming arrived, Gouzi was also there, as were Qiu Wuhui and others. Seeing the dying bomber, Tian Ming's face was cold, and he snatched the pistol from Director Han's hand.
Bang, bang, bang! ... Tian Ming pulled the trigger repeatedly until the magazine was empty. And that person was as dead as could be.
"Carry the body away."
Tian Ming glanced at the onlookers. The body was carried out, and blood flowed on the ground, a shocking sight. The atmosphere at the scene was extremely oppressive, and no one spoke.
"Alright, playing with bombs privately. You've grown some guts, haven't you?"
Director Han stepped forward: "Boss, this matter..."
"Shut up!" Tian Ming coldly interrupted Director Han.
The boss was in a rage, and no one dared to provoke him. Director Han wisely retreated to the side. Tian Ming scanned the people in the shed, his gaze extremely cold.
"Today, you can speak freely, say whatever you want. I know some of you are dissatisfied with me deep down. Speak it out, and I won't kill you." Tian Ming's voice was low and suppressed, as if an invisible force was pressing down on people's hearts.
However, no one responded, and the atmosphere became even more oppressive.
"Boss, this isn't their fault. It's my fault. I didn't manage things well," Mr. Yuan suddenly stood out and said sincerely.
"It's not your business, shut up."
Hundreds of people in this earthwork shed just stood there. Most did not dare to speak, but a small portion wanted to express their dissatisfaction.
Tian Ming looked at the crowd below and sneered, "Why is no one speaking? Are you all mute?"
At this moment, a woman stood out, with some gray hairs at her temples. Looking at her age, she was almost fifty.
"Boss, in our eyes, you are like a god. You can clearly let us live a better life, but you don't. This city wall has been under construction for so many days, and everyone is very tired. Why do you make us do something you can easily do?"
"Should I find you a nanny then? You're here to seek refuge, not to enjoy life. If you want to work, then work. If not, get out."
"Boss, you said that whoever has a greater contribution has a higher status. Everyone is doing the same work, so how is contribution reflected? I contribute so much earthwork every day, and there are many older people and those who slack off. Why do they get the same pay as me?"
A man, very strong, with mud all over his face, stood out. The situations he described were indeed real.
Tian Ming was not angry; he was not the kind of person who used a one-size-fits-all approach. In the final analysis, it was a conflict arising from uneven distribution. Everyone working together and receiving the same pay would inevitably breed dissatisfaction.
A carbon fiber chair appeared behind Tian Ming. He sat down, crossed his legs, and looked at the man. The man's heart was also in turmoil; he was afraid Tian Ming would get angry, but if he didn't bring it up, someone like him, who worked more, would always be at a disadvantage.
"Speak, what good solution do you have?" Tian Ming said slowly.
The man swallowed his saliva and slowly said, "Let's do contracting, calculated by workload. I'll invite a few brothers to contract the transport of earthwork on time and by quantity. I can get as many food tickets as I can do work. Boss, this isn't just my opinion. Also, the quota for exchanging supplies should also be adjusted according to contribution. Useful people should eat more and get more; it's useless for others to be jealous."
As soon as he made this suggestion, the men responded one after another. Indeed, everyone working in the same place, you working yourself to death, and getting the same treatment as others, that's unfair. As long as it's unfair, there will be resentment.
No one could figure out the boss's temperament, and no one gave feedback. Instead, some people went to extremes, dragging others to their deaths if they couldn't get benefits.
Tian Ming glanced at Mr. Yuan and said, "What do you think?"
"Boss, I've thought about this problem. But it's not feasible. Supervision, evaluation, pricing—doing it this way would require someone to record, and the quality might not be guaranteed either."
Tian Ming, however, waved his hand and said, "No need for so much trouble. Just divide the city wall into sections and let them form teams to contract the construction. You just provide technical support. Look directly at the results. Before contracting, have them put their fingerprints down, pay half upfront, and the rest upon completion. As for how they divide it among themselves, that's their business."
Mr. Yuan nodded and said nothing more.
Tian Ming looked at the people below and said, "Then let's do contracting. More work, more gain. You can discuss it among yourselves. Whatever you think is fair, that's how we'll do it. The minority obeys the majority."
"I disagree, Boss. What about us women? This is discrimination. Once it's contracted out, are we women going to starve to death?"
