81: Armored vehicles approaching
With a helicopter built and someone to fly it, the Materials Group's range for collecting supplies in the city would greatly expand.
Looking at the snowflakes drifting outside the window, Tian Ming's biggest worry was still this damned weather.
"Liu Chuan, you can pick any five people from the Shelter.
You will be the instructor for the Shelter's Flight Academy; quickly train a batch of helicopter pilots," Tian Ming said.
Before Liu Chuan could answer, Shen Yuan said, "Boss, we don't even have a simulator, how can we train?"
Liu Chuan also nodded, saying, "Sister Shen Yuan is right; besides a simulator, various training equipment and a training ground also need to be prepared.
Moreover, it's difficult to train mature and qualified pilots in a short time."
Tian Ming, however, waved his hand and said, "As for the simulator, I'll get one.
For other things, simplify wherever possible.
This kind of thing is about practice makes perfect; just fly a few more times."
Transport helicopters have automatic flight control.
The level of automation is very high; the pilot's role is more like the helicopter's Commander.
Just like high-speed trains, the driver sits for most of the time, not requiring much operation.
This highly automated flight control has been very mature for over a decade.
Liu Chuan found it hard to refute anything, so he just nodded and said, "Alright, I'll start selecting people immediately.
However, can our food be better?
After all, flying a plane requires a strong physique and mind."
"That's no problem; you go prepare for it, and report the resources to Lin Yue," Tian Ming said.
He also knew how much it would cost to train a qualified pilot.
But some responsibilities cannot be placed on one person.
Liu Chuan walked out of the conference room and swaggered off to find Lin Yue; he was now considered an important figure in the Shelter.
"Boss, this Liu Chuan seems a bit exaggerated!" Shen Yuan opened her thermos and took a sip of hot water.
"I don't care if he's exaggerated or not, as long as he can get things done.
By the way, what exactly is a flight simulator?" Tian Ming asked.
"It's a type of teaching equipment for training pilots.
There's an old-fashioned type, which is a ground-based simulated cockpit.
There's also a new type that combines VR; it's much smaller in volume and has higher fidelity."
Tian Ming nodded and asked, "Where can I find one?
I'll collect a sample and then replicate it back at the Shelter."
"Official flight academies have them, but Boss, our city doesn't have a flight academy.
The closest one is over four hundred kilometers away.
And it's useless if you bring the machine back; the accompanying software also needs to be copied," Shen Yuan said.
Tian Ming pondered for a moment and said, "Then I'll take your brother; he'll be responsible for copying the software, and I'll handle the hardware."
"My brother isn't as good at this as I am; I should go!" Shen Yuan said.
"You're not going.
You have a cold; why would you go?
Your cold will get worse," Tian Ming said.
Shen Yuan immediately became displeased and said, "It's useless if you take my brother; he doesn't know how to do this."
"Then we'll wait until you recover; there's no rush anyway.
First, let them study theoretical knowledge," Tian Ming said, leaning back in his chair.
"Boss, what are you planning to do next?" Shen Yuan asked.
"Nothing.
I haven't slept all day; I want to go to sleep.
Or I can send you back to your room to rest."
Shen Yuan was about to nod in agreement when the alarm on her hand went off.
Shen Yuan glanced at it, and her brows immediately furrowed.
The floating satellite scans the area around the Shelter every ten seconds.
These scanned area images are then fed into a computer for comparison.
An alarm is only issued when an anomaly appears in the outer perimeter.
The computer distinguishes the level of threat based on the size and quantity of approaching targets.
There are five risk levels in total, and for an automatic wireless notification to Shen Yuan, it must reach level three or higher.
"What's wrong?" Tian Ming asked.
"Something is approaching the Shelter.
It just reached the outer edge.
I need to go back to the control room to pull up the images and see the specific situation."
"I'll go with you.
The problem won't be very serious, will it?" Tian Ming asked.
Shen Yuan shook her head: "I'm not sure; I'll only know once I see the real-time images."
Tian Ming took Shen Yuan to the control room.
Shen Yuan sat in the chair and opened the satellite images.
Soon, the scene around the Shelter appeared on the large screen.
The images were very clear, and there were two objects still moving in the picture, but their speed was not fast.
Tian Ming leaned closer.
With such thick snow, these two black objects were still slowly moving forward.
"What are they?" Tian Ming asked.
As the satellite's camera locked on, black smoke billowed from the snow-covered road.
Two black armored vehicles came into view, struggling to move through several meters of deep snow.
They slowly approached the Shelter.
Seeing this, Tian Ming took a deep breath: "You stay here; I'll go out and see."
Shen Yuan nodded: "Okay, be careful."
Tian Ming opened the door and took out the walkie-talkie from his pocket: "Qiu Wuhui, bring a few people and come out of the Shelter with me; someone's here."
"Understood, Boss.
We'll wait for you at the Shelter's entrance," Qiu Wuhui responded.
Tian Ming strode towards the Shelter's main gate.
The road was already covered in white snow.
Since it hadn't been cleared and the weather was dry, the accumulated snow had become very fluffy.
Tian Ming led Qiu Wuhui and his group to the Shelter's main entrance.
Not long after, two black armored vehicles slowly drove over.
Their bodies were covered in snowflakes, but the general outline of the armored vehicles could still be seen.
The two armored vehicles stopped about a hundred meters from the Shelter.
There were still many dry black bloodstains on the vehicles, as if they had been through a battle.
Qiu Wuhui and the others followed behind Tian Ming.
They were wearing combat uniforms and carrying automatic firearms.
With a creak, nearly a dozen people got out of the two vehicles.
They were wearing heavy cotton clothing and also carrying weapons.
The two groups approached each other.
"Don't shoot, we are not infected with the virus," the person in the lead shouted loudly.
Tian Ming raised his right hand, signaling Qiu Wuhui and the others not to act rashly.
He himself calmly walked towards the dozen people coming towards him.
Tian Ming looked at them and asked, "Who are you?"
The leader replied, "We are a garrison unit from a nearby city.
My name is Meng Dong, and I am the captain of this small squad."
Tian Ming carefully observed these people.
They were burly, with weathered faces, but their eyes revealed firm conviction.
It seemed these people were all rigorously trained soldiers.
Tian Ming nodded and said, "Just get in your armored vehicles and follow me."
As soon as he finished speaking, the several meters of thick snow were pushed to both sides of the road by an invisible force, revealing the black, hard asphalt road surface.
Meng Dong looked at this scene before him, secretly surprised, but the expression on his face did not fluctuate much.
Their base had been attacked by mutated zombies.
The base Meng Dong was in suffered heavy losses; out of hundreds of people, only about a dozen of them escaped.
The reason they headed this way was because they saw the suspended helium airship high in the sky.
